It Started With A Track Day

Taking sim racers onto the track in Calgary with Rookie Racing.

From catching a cheap flight with nothing but my necessities crammed into my backpack and one pair of jeans, somehow everything came together. SRN hosted its first official track day meetup where most of our members hopped into a real race car for the very first time.

Track Day Logistics Log
• Landed at YYC: 6:30 PM
• First car delivered to the track: 9:00 PM
• Second load delivered: 11:30 PM
• Slept just after 2:00 AM • Wakeup: 7:00 AM

When Things Go Sideways in Motorsport

That night was rough. Nothing was turning out the way Rui over at Rookie Racing expected. His tow vehicle broke down days earlier. U-Haul stopped renting trucks with tow hitches, leaving Enterprise as our only option. We made it work, but only learned this after regaining cell service when the plane landed.

Things went sideways, and that is just part of motorsport. You cannot always have things go perfectly. We passed out after 2:00 AM with under four hours of sleep. Up and at it at 7:00 AM. We arrived at the track, prepped the cars, discussed the game plan, and hit the circuit.

From Sim to Circuit

Members drove Nissan Micra Cup track cars, traded apex tips, and spent hours in the paddock together. The transition from direct-drive force feedback to real G-forces and brake pedal resistance proved just how effective modern sim racing has become as a training ground.

Aside from minor onboard camera glitches, the session delivered clean running from first session to final checker. Join our Discord paddock for details on the next grassroots track day.
