New Features CATCAR Needs for Long-Term Replayability

We break down the features, PvP pit lanes, track types, and car setup tools ESGalore could add to give CATCAR Pit Crew lasting replayability.

New Features CATCAR Needs for Long-Term Replayability

Right on the CATCAR Pit Crew Steam page, solo developer ESGalore jokes about the elephant in the garage: when your entire concept revolves around an activity that lasts 12 to 15 seconds at a time, how do you build enough depth to keep players coming back for months?

The first public playtest proved the core loop is a hit, and ESGalore confirmed in the November 1 patch notes that community suggestions are now shaping new additions for the full launch. Looking at how crews played this week, a few targeted upgrades could turn a great weekend party game into a long-term staple.

"I will also be looking at your suggestions and feedback as well, as I intend on working on newer additions and features for the full version."
Current Playtest Foundation
  • Single Oval Variant: Seven-lap stage races against AI teams in the Pitstop Cup Series.
  • Shop Progression: Spending race payouts between rounds on faster jacks, gun batteries, and shock sentries.
  • Steam Invite Co-Op: One crew working together with an AI driver or one human behind the wheel.
High-Retention Features to Add
  • Multi-Crew PvP Pit Road: Three or four human crews sharing pit lane in the same race.
  • Track & Weather Variety: Short tracks, road courses, and wet-weather tire compound gambles.
  • In-Stall Chassis Tuning: Wedge wrenches, grille tape pulls, and sledgehammer fender clearance.

1. Head-to-Head Multiplayer Pit Lanes (Crew vs. Crew)

In the playtest, your squad operates as the only human crew against AI stalls. The single biggest leap for long-term player retention would be a multi-crew PvP mode where three or four five-player teams share the same pit road. Dodging rival cars entering their stalls, defending your tire racks from real human thieves, and racing another Discord crew off the jacks under a late-race caution would create endless replay value.

2. Wedge Wrenches, Grille Tape, and Short-Track Damage

Once a crew masters four tires and fuel, stops need extra variables to keep veteran players on their toes. Adding a rear window wedge wrench to dial out tight or loose handling, slap-on grille tape that trades engine cooling for straight-line draft speed, and baseball bats or pull-bars to yank crushed fenders off rubbing tires after short-track contact would give every crew member a specialized job.

3. Road Courses, Rolling Starts, and Wheel Support

ESGalore already noted that rolling starts, four-speed gearboxes, two-wide grids, and additional track layouts are on the development radar. Pairing a road course, where fuel fills and jack sides flip, with basic USB steering wheel and pedal binding for the driver seat would let dedicated sim racers run the car on their rig while their friends work the pit wall. Catch up on why co-op racing fans are flocking to CATCAR and how to master manual stops in the pit box.
