Sony and Polyphony Digital are reporting unprecedented player engagement in Gran Turismo 7 this fall, citing an unexpected surge in active daily drivers across PlayStation 5 and PS VR2 as the primary catalyst behind the upcoming Spec IV update.
Rather than slowing down development as the simulator enters its fourth year on the market, producer Kazunori Yamauchi confirmed that steady online competition in Sport Mode and continuous physics refinements have kept lobby grids full across Europe, North America, and Japan.
"We are seeing a wider range of drivers jumping into online racing than ever before. That passionate community gives our physics team the momentum to deliver deeper simulation updates."
The combination of PS VR2 cockpit immersion, improved force feedback linearity for direct drive wheelbases, and frequent weekly Sport Mode events has brought grassroots sim racers and real motorsport fans together on the platform.
The first phase deploys on October 15 with Update 1.72, introducing Sportsland Sugo under dynamic weather, the Ferrari F355 Berlinetta, and refined low-speed tire scrub acoustics.
A Vibrant Paddock
With community participation reaching new highs, GT7 continues to cement its status as a vital bridge introducing everyday console gamers to competitive virtual motorsport.
